Welcome to the Inner City Enlightenment, the official blog of Inner City Excellence. What is Inner City Excellence? ICE is a skating-based youth development program rooted in Olympism that emerged out of Fort Dupont Ice Arena in Washington, DC in 2002. Known locally as DC-ICE, and now some 15 years on, we've been inspiring and empowering hundreds - wait, thousands - of youth and adults through novel skating programs and events lead by Olympic-caliber coaches.
The goal of our latest project, this blog, is to explore the ideas that inform our actions. Specifically, the ideas that created, motivated and continue to steer our course as one of the city's - nation's? world's? - pioneering youth sports programs.
What can you expect to find here? Stories. Interviews. Anecdotes. Questions. Perhaps even some answers and conclusions, if any emerge.
